Summary: Lorena runs to every girl's first hero, their Papa.

She can't stand it any longer, watching them up there playing, watching the two of them especially making eyes at each other. They're no longer together, but it seems like the band's reputation and sales have picked up because of the local rumors that two of the band mates are in love. Lorena tosses back her head, swallowing the last of her shot, and storms out of the cafe.

She used to love this place, love this town, love that band, love that lead singer especially... Shutting her eyes against the well of tears threatening to come down, Lorena runs down familiar steps and onto a familiar shore. She doesn't stop until she feels the tide washing over her bare feet. Even then she doesn't dare to look around her. She looks up at the sky, across the water, and then focuses on the sparkling sunlight cascading across the top of the rippling currents.

She needs to be going in that direction, she thinks, not towards the shore but the opposite, away, away from here, away from him, away from all the pain this place brings her... She sniffles and dashes the tears from her eyes. She is a DaCosta! She is the most beautiful girl in this town, and the richest! She could pay to have any model or actor for a boyfriend! She could have any other man she wants! Except... She doesn't want any of them. She's tried so hard to get over Jake, had a string of boyfriends after him, but he remains the only guy she's ever truly loved, the only one she still wants.

She'd thought she'd spend forever here in this town, but now she's not so sure. Her parents had offered to move many times but have always ended up changing their mind because she's begged them not to make her move. They're constantly going away on cruises and looking for better places, experiencing better places and times... Maybe that's what she needs -- a complete change of scenery with people who don't know her, people she can leave behind if, and when, they break her heart.

California, she thinks, snorting derisively, as she hears the band playing their signature song. Cali isn't that pretty, not for those who have been stuck there all their lives as she has, but why she has been stuck? Because she's been waiting around on him. Because she's been thinking he'll come to his senses. He's broke up with Tiffany and still pretending to be in love with her and making googly eyes for the sales!

She needs different. She needs to move on. She needs better than a guy who cheated on her, her of all people! She is Lorena DaCosta, and she deserves better! She demands better! Stomping her foot, Lorena pulls out her cell phone and dials her father's direct line. The minute he answers, she breathes into the phone, letting him hear by the husky sound of her voice that she's been crying again, "Papa, estoy lista."

Lorena stilled herself, closed her eyes, and focused on her papa's deep, rumbling voice and his strong and reassuring words. Her Papa would get her out of here! He'd take her to another place, a better place, a place where her dreams didn't die but where they could live again! He'd take her far away from that foolish babeco to a place where there were throngs of hotter and wiser men! Real men who could get her over Jake I-Wanna-Be-Cool-So-Badly Somers!

Listening to her papa, clinging to his every word and promise, she walked away. The Dreams had ended their music for now, but she didn't notice and wouldn't have cared if she had. She was on the road to recovery. Jake Somers, and this place and it all the dreams she'd had shattered here, would soon be far away from her, powerless to hurt her ever again. "Haremos que tus sueƱos vivan, hija."

"I know, Papa," she said, smiling for the first time in weeks. As she wiped away the last of her tears from her beautiful eyes, she didn't hear her name being called in the background or see the figure chasing behind her. "Gracias. I'll be home soon. Te amo!" Closing her phone, she stepped into the first cab that pulled up to offer her a ride, still not seeing the figure from her past chasing behind her. Closing her eyes, she steadied her breathing. Jake Somers would soon be gone, or at least, she'd be gone, forever more, from him.

"Where to?"

She wanted to say, "As far away from here," as possible, but that would come with the love and encouragement of her folks, who had always tried to warn her about the gringo from the beginning. Instead, she gave her address -- also the address to her cherished Papa, who would finally get her away from this place and from the boy he'd always known was unworthy of his daughter, her Papa who would save her yet again from heartbreak and misery, her Papa, who would help her make her dreams, whatever she chose them to be in the end, a reality, her Papa, her hero.
