An Act of Love

“Oh, Harry, isn’t she beautiful?” Draco asked.

“She’s perfect, Draco. Gorgeous,” Harry agreed softly.

“She looks like you, Draco. But her eyes are violet,” Pansy said, sounding perplexed.

“Violet eyes run in Luna’s family,” Harry explained, “She said it’s a sign of good fortune when a child of magical blood is born with violet eyes.”

“Well, ordinarily, I’d be disinclined to put much faith in Lovegood’s tales, but in this case, I do hope it’s true,” Draco stated, expression softening as he regarded his baby daughter.

“It is true, Draco. She’ll be blessed, I know it. Her fathers wouldn’t have it any other way,” Luna chimed in from the hospital bed.

 She sounded exhausted, but there was still a spark of mischievous contentedness in her eyes.

“We can’t thank you enough, Luna. It means the world to us that you agreed to do this for us. How can we ever repay you?” Harry questioned, heart suddenly feeling too full to speak.

“You two have been true friends to me. It was my honour to carry your child. It makes me happy to know she carries a blessing from my family with her. Repay me by enjoying your lives with her. That is all the recompense I need,” Luna declared solemnly.

“What shall we name her, Harry?” Draco inquired.

“Jasmine Luna Malfoy-Potter. It sounds pretty, don’t you think?” Harry answered.

“Harry, that’s-brilliant,” Draco replied, suddenly having trouble speaking around the lump in his throat.

“Luna? Is that okay with you?” Harry asked, feeling unaccountably nervous.

“Harry Potter. That is one of the greatest gifts I could ever have in my life. Thank you,” Luna smiled at him, carefully wiping the tears from her eyes.

Harry smiled back, looking at the people around him. Today, he felt that life itself was the greatest gift of all.
